Even though he still hasn’t taken the oath of office, it’s impossible to ignore the fact that Donald Trump seems to be accomplishing more as president-elect than Obama has as president.
So far these victories have been in the realm of domestic affairs, like keeping jobs and companies from leaving the U.S. However, now Trump’s influence has stretched into foreign policy as well.
Conservative Tribune reports:
Thanks to last-minute efforts by both U.S. President-elect Donald Trump and Israeli President Benjamin Netanyahu, Egypt first delayed a U.N. Security Council vote on a resolution to block Israeli settlements in Palestinian territory.
Now, it has scrapped the plan entirely, according to the Washington Examiner.
As reported by Reuters, Nentayhu took to Twitter early Thursday morning pleading with the United States to veto the resolution. Hours later, Trump posted similar messages to Twitter and Facebook.
Trump gets a lot of flack for all his tweeting, but like most things he does that drive liberals crazy, they hate it because it’s been such a successful tactic.
Can you imagine how much Donald Trump will get done when he’s actually in the Oval Office?
Even though Egypt seemed to have delayed the vote, there are reports that Obama maneuvered to get the vote pushed through anyway by other nations. Then he withheld the veto the United States has traditionally used to block the U.N., and Israel was officially condemned for its settlements.
The council passed the measure Friday after the United States abstained, enabling the adoption of the first UN resolution since 1979 to condemn Israel over its settlement policy.
Friday’s vote was scheduled at the request of New Zealand, Malaysia, Senegal and Venezuela, who stepped in to push for action after Egypt put the draft resolution on hold.
Israel scrambled Saturday to contain the fallout from the UN Security Council vote to halt settlements in Palestinian territory after lashing out at US President Barack Obama over the “shameful” resolution.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu rejected the resolution and criticised Obama in especially harsh language.
“The Obama administration not only failed to protect Israel against this gang-up at the UN, it colluded with it behind the scenes,” it said.
This is a very disappointing result—but we can be sure that this will never happen in a Trump administration, which is only days away!
