Texas Senator Ted Cruz will introduce a constitutional amendment to limit the numbers of terms the Senate and House of Representatives can serve. He said in an op-ed post for the Washington Post:
“On Election Day, the American people made a resounding call to “drain the swamp” that is modern Washington. Yet on Capitol Hill, we seem mired in the same cycle of complacency: The game hasn’t changed, and the players remain the same. Thankfully, there’s a solution available that, while stymied by the permanent political class, enjoys broad public support: congressional term limits.”
Florida republican Rep. Ron DeSantis will co-sponsor the bill. DeSantis is a former Lieutenant, Judge Advocate General Corps, US Navy and was deployed with Seal team 6 in Iraq.
Cruz was inspired by President-elect Donald Trump’s plan to drain the DC swamp.
According to Cruz with Donald Trump in the oval office combined with Paul Ryan’s early endorsement of a similar proposal, the time is right to act to limit corruption in DC and restore accountability to Washington.
Cruz’s amendment has broad public support from both sides of the aisle. According to a recent Rasmussen survey, 74 percent of likely voters support term limits for all members of Congress.
