A new poll out of the state of Virginia shows Donald Trump taking a 3-point lead over rival Hillary Clinton in the first major state poll since the FBI reopened its investigation into Clinton’s email.

According to the Hampton University poll, 44 percent of voters in the Old Dominion favored Donald Trump compared to 41 percent for Clinton. Another 15 percent of voters said that they didn’t know which candidate they would be voting for.

The poll had a rather wide margin of error of 4.57 percent, meaning that Trump and Clinton were technically in a statistical tie. However, it represented a remarkable turnaround in a state where Clinton held a 12 percent advantage in the ‘RealClearPolitics’ poll average as late as the beginning of September.

Perhaps most importantly, the pollsters said that Hillary had held a 2-point lead in the poll, which was conducted Oct. 26 through Oct. 30, before the news of the FBI investigation broke on Fri., Oct. 28.

The poll was also revealing in a number of other ways. A whopping 47 percent of Virginians said that they viewed “working to improve the economy and create jobs” as the most important issue; they viewed Trump as being better equipped to deal with that than Clinton by a margin of 48 percent to 44 percent.

In addition, only 34 percent of voters viewed Clinton as trustworthy, compared to 42 percent for Trump.

If any of the swing states could be considered a “must-win” for Clinton, Virginia would be it. The state has a large number of government workers in the suburbs of Washington, D.C., most of whom aren’t amenable to Trump’s talk about smaller government. In addition, Clinton specifically picked Virginia Sen. Tim Kaine as her running mate to secure the Old Dominion.

While Hillary has led in most recent polls in Virginia, this could show yet another battleground state in which the tide is turning, and turning big time. You can bet this poll has Hillary sweating bullets.
